Diarized

Glossary

Deep work

Deep work is professional activity performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that pushes your cognitive capabilities to their limit. The term was coined by Cal Newport in his 2016 book of the same name, which argues the ability is becoming rarer at the same time as it becomes more valuable.

Where it goes wrong

It gets treated as a personality type rather than a scheduling problem. Newport's own prescription is mundane and specific: decide in advance which hours are for it, and defend those hours. Most people who say they cannot do deep work have never actually put it in the calendar.

Diarized schedules the work you already keep in a to-do app into the calendar you already use, and shows you why every block landed where it did.
